Once that you have pinpointed the type of dining table for your space, you need to decide on the dining chairs that you will be using and how you will match them to the table. Nowadays, mix-and-match dining sets are very IN. They make for a more interesting dining room but they’re also more challenging to put together. So before you invest in a designer dining chair set, make sure that it’s going to work with the table, the room and the overall style of your home. Have no fear — whether you’re a minimalist, a midcentury modern lover or an industrial aficionado, I’m sure you can find the ideal designer dining chair for you.

When looking through the wide selection of designer dining chair models for sale, there are several things to consider. First and foremost, consider your interior design and imagine how you want your dining space to look like. Your dining table and chairs don’t necessarily have to match, but not all styles go well together. Next, ensure that the dimensions of the dining space are congruent with the size of your dining table and chairs. This is an important factor so that the room’s size does not end up overpowering the furniture pieces and vice versa. And last but not least, make sure that the chair’s seat height isn’t too high or low for the table. Let’s talk about these things in more detail.

Design

Although it is totally chic to pair contemporary chairs with a traditional table, and vice versa, try to look for pieces that share a common design element. For instance, if the table has a sinuous leg, it’s worth looking for a chair that shares the same line in the back or leg. Or, you can go with upholstery with swirls on it. Similarly, if the table is rectangular or square, consider chairs with a rectangular or square seat.

Dimensions

For armless dining chairs, twenty-two inches is a great standard width. You can also go with larger chairs if your dining room is particularly big and you have room. Make sure to avoid chairs that are narrower than 17 inches as they simply won’t provide enough support for comfortably sitting and eating. For the ultimate comfort, go with dining chairs that are 20 to 24 inches deep.

Seat Height

As for the height of the seats, 18 or 19 inches are perfect. As a general rule of thumb, allow a minimum of 12 inches between the top of the seat and the top of the table. Dining tables generally stand 29 to 30 inches high.
