Catching your prey can sometimes be very frustrating as there are a lot of factors you need to consider when doing so. While experience is a big advantage, it is not something that you can acquire overnight. To make things easier, instead of chasing your prey – why not wait for it to come to you? I know it probably sounds weird and lazy but luring your prey is actually a very efficient way of hunting. For this purpose, you will need game calls. However, a different type of prey requires a different game caller and it is important to know what you are after. Here’s what to consider when buying.

Sound

Not just the type of sound, but the actual quality of it and how close it is to the original one, are all important factors that have a big impact on the outcome. A game caller can be easy to differentiate by animals if it doesn’t resemble the original one, which depends on the speaker. The higher the quality of the speaker, the clearer the sound and thus the more authentic the call. Make sure that the device has a rich enough sound so that you have enough options at hand.

Weather Resistance

Since weather conditions are always an element of surprise even for meteorologists, having a weather-resistant device will free you from any worries when the weather takes a sudden turn for the worse. Make sure that even the speaker is well-protected from water or any other debris so you can use it in the years to come.

Design

In case you are going to change positions, I suggest you get a game caller that has a tripod mounting with long and elevated enough legs to keep it stable. Also, make sure it is made out of durable material – even if it’s plastic, check to see if it is polyurethane as it is tougher than ABS plastic.

Weight

It is a common misconception that the lighter the device is, the better. And while this is beneficial when it comes to portability, it’s not the best way to go when it comes to sound quality. The heavier the caller – the better the speaker, but that doesn’t mean you need to get the heaviest either. Instead, look for a device that has a good sound quality and is fairly lightweight so you can have a game caller with a solid performance and one that you can easily carry with you.

Additional Features

These features are sure to enhance the device’s abilities, but again, you have to take into account portability as these are usually not built-in. You can get external speakers if you want to expand your range and produce a more realistic sound. Also, you can get an external battery pack so you can use it more extensively or get a carrying case to keep the unit safe.
