You’ve got mail! Reading these words, I have to admit I’m still happier when it’s through slow mail than email. The excitement that stems from the fact you’re receiving something the good old-fashioned way is incomparable for me, be it getting a package ordered online, a gift from a thoughtful person, or simply an ad.

And then, there’s also the fact the mailbox is an ornament of the home given that it can significantly add to the curb appeal and functionality. Even though there’s the chance to receive mail through a PO Box, a service available even to the homeless, I can’t imagine missing out on receiving it at home using the help of my own mailbox.

As there’s such a wide range of letterboxes nowadays, it may be rather difficult to make up your mind on the ideal one. Even though I appreciate all the designs, I must say I have my favourite – the wall mounted mailbox, and I wouldn’t change it for anything. If you’re in doubt, perhaps this blog post would assist you in making you see why the wall mounted is such a great option!

A Matter of Safety

When you get your own letterbox, you have the impression your mail is safe until you realise it’s become an easy target for thieves, otherwise known as porch pirates. There’s always such a threat with a freestanding or fence mounted mailbox, which isn’t the case with wall mounted.

I’m sure you wouldn’t want your belongings exposed to a third party, or worse your identity especially when receiving things like credit cards. So the easiest way to protect yourself is to ensure your mail is secure from theft and vandalization by keeping it close to home. This is exactly what the wall letterbox provides! For added security, you could simply install a security camera over it and have your peace of mind.

A Matter of Versatility

Since there isn’t a one size fits all, you can count on a vast array of options of designs that are created to provide you with the needed stylishness and practicality. Considering the weather can be harsh in the Land Down Under, you can be sure you’d find various models made from durable materials that can withstand wear and tear, as in the example of aluminium, stainless steel, and wood such as accoya known to be sustainable.

In addition, you’ve got versatile styles and shapes to choose from, depending on whether you prefer the modern minimalist appeal more or would go for something retro or classic. A wall mounted mailbox is supposed to be the adornment for the home, so it should match the style – no one needs an eyesore as the result of a bad choice of mixing styles and materials.

Moreover, if you feel like a letterbox doesn’t have exactly what you need in terms of style you could find the designers and stores that provide you with the chance to customise their models. For instance, you could do so with the help of accessories like planter boxes perfect for succulents added on top of the letterbox, engraving, or a lock if you’re up for more security.

A Matter of Convenience

I’m sure I’m not the only one in saying getting the mail when it’s extremely hot outside isn’t that exciting nor motivating. With a wall mounted letter boxes you don’t have to prepare for a stroll, the mail is right within reach just outside the front door. Need I say I’ve had the comfort of picking my mail in my pyjamas. Yes, that’s the kind of privacy you get with this mailbox!

Not to mention, having the letter box installed on your front door would turn to be an extra expense you didn’t even imagine as the opening could expose you to constant draughts. As a consequence to an increase in your energy bills.

Choosing Your Wall Mount Letterbox

Okay, now that you know all the benefits you can get from choosing such letterbox, it’s time to focus on how to buy one, out of a myriad of options.

The Material – As I mentioned, the material makes a huge difference in the quality of the mailbox, so if you live in an area prone to heat or humidity, look for the materials that can endure the elements, such as steel. After all, what would the point be in purchasing a plastic mailbox if there are more hot days where you live since the heat would most likely change its shape and colour?

The Size – Now this is another important aspect you shouldn’t ignore. The size basically comes down to the kind of mail you receive usually, so be sure to measure the mail you receive on a daily basis in order to know the exact measurements you require for the box and the letter slot specifically.
